14/05/2014

Rolawn’s Medallion and Minster Pro turf has been used by students from Shropshire-based Otherwise Engaged on their garden at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival, for which they were awarded a Highly Commended certificate by The Royal Horticultural Society.

The School Gardens Challenge at Malvern Spring Festival aims to inspire school pupils of all ages. This year, the next generation of horticulturalists and garden designers were tasked with producing a garden that represented a ‘Great Moment in History’.

Otherwise Engaged students from Years 11 and 13, designed and built their Digital Growth garden to celebrate the digital revolution. Flowerbeds were used to depict the advances in digital resolution, copper pipes and fused glass illustrated a mini processor, and a sculpture represented the growth of computer technology. Both Medallion and Minster Pro turf from Rolawn were incorporated into the garden producing a two tone effect to easily define the ‘circuit paths’.

The successful students were presented with a ‘Highly Commended’ award by Blue Peter gardener Chis Collins, on behalf of The Royal Horticultural Society, and they were also presented with a Certificate of Excellence for project management and health and safety by Phil Eves from BAM Construct, who sponsored the School Gardens Challenge.

Andrea Edwards, Otherwise Engaged’s Voluntary Project Co-ordinator, said, “This was a great result and testament to the team’s hard work, particularly as weather conditions have been decidedly challenging. We’d like to thank everyone involved at the showground, and all our sponsors and supporters, for making this achievement possible”.
